Eighty-seven men at the confluence. Raja Abdullah of Klang sends 87 Chinese miners upriver to prospect for tin. They land where the Gombak meets the Klang — the muddy confluence — and walk inland to Ampang. Sixty-nine of them are dead of malaria within a month.
